Lactalis UK & Ireland is expanding its Galbani range with the UK’s first mozzarella in a recyclable carton. Available from mid-April, Galbani Mozzarella di latte di Bufala 200g will be launching just in time for the annual mozzarella sales peak during the Spring and Summer months.

Made with 100% Italian buffalo milk, the new premium Galbani product offers a creamy texture and delicious authentic taste. In a trail-blazing move, this product launch represents the UK’s first mozzarella in a recyclable carton, which will appeal to environmentally-conscious consumers. Insight behind the launch found that sustainability is high on the consumer agenda with 63%[i] of those surveyed saying they like the recyclability element and are intending to buy the new product.

As the #1 Italian cheese brand and #1 mozzarella brand[ii], Galbani enjoyed a buoyant 2020 overall with total value sales growing by +49.3%[iii], as the brand benefited from consumers cooking more at home. Sales of the Galbani range peaked during May to August, with Galbani Mozzarella 125g and Galbani Burrata 150g growing by +94% and +182% respectively compared to the previous four months. This growth is due to consumers using mozzarella and burrata products as key ingredients in the barbecue and alfresco dining occasions.

Heloise Le Norcy-Trott, Group Marketing Director for Lactalis UK & Ireland comments: “As the UK’s first mozzarella in a recyclable carton, our new Galbani Mozzarella di latte di Bufala performed extremely well in our pre-launch market research. We are therefore expecting it to boost the solid sales growth of Galbani even further as the days get longer and the weather warms up. We urge retailers to stock up now to maximise the summertime sales peak.”

With a listing secured in Waitrose, Galbani Mozzarella di latte di Bufala 200g is expected to become a must-stock item appealing to affluent foodies looking to enjoy delicious homemade Italian salads.
